LIG Nex1 Consortium Signs Contract with Korea Airports Corporation
Purchase and Installation of Illegal Drone Detection Equipment at Gimpo International Airport
A leading domestic defense company has applied its accumulated ‘aviation system integration’ technology to a project aimed at eradicating ‘hidden cameras’ viewed from the sky.
LIG Nex1 (CEO Kim Ji-chan) announced on the 31st that it signed a contract worth about 2 billion KRW with Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) on the 26th for the ‘Gimpo International Airport Illegal Drone Detection Equipment Purchase and Installation Project.’
Through this contract, the LIG Nex1 consortium (LIG Nex1 and Agos) plans to complete the installation of equipment for detecting illegal drones at Gimpo International Airport this year.
This project provides a service that detects the location of drones approaching or intruding into the airspace of Gimpo International Airport, as well as the location and movement of their operators, to protect arriving and departing aircraft, airport facilities, and airport users from ‘intruders.’
LIG Nex1 evaluated this as having established a foothold for entering the anti-drone market by developing and supplying integrated anti-drone solutions, including illegal drone detection, tracking, and neutralization (soft kill), at domestic and international airports including military airports.
Currently, LIG Nex1 is conducting the ‘Development of Ground-Based Illegal Drone Detection, Identification, Tracking, Neutralization Technology and Operation System’ project, which is part of the ‘Intelligent Response Technology for Illegal Drones’ initiative led by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the National Police Agency.
Jang Young-jin, head of the Electronic Warfare Division at LIG Nex1, emphasized that by collaborating with Agos and utilizing system integration experience accumulated across all defense business fields such as aerospace, guided weapons, surveillance reconnaissance, communications, avionics, and electronic warfare, they will elevate South Korea’s anti-drone technology to the world’s highest level.
