Park Yong-jin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized Mayor Oh Se-hoon's responsibility regarding the Seoul city disaster alert false alarm incident.
Park, whose constituency is Gangbuk-eul in Seoul, posted on his social media on the 31st under the title "Mayor Oh, the Boy Who Cried Wolf, Seoul citizens are anxious about amateur administration," pointing out the issue.
He likened Mayor Oh to the protagonist of the fairy tale "The Boy Who Cried Wolf," who caused chaos in the village by lying that a wolf had appeared.
Park said, "Seoul citizens were very surprised and confused by the unexpected early morning alert. I was too," adding, "But this 20-minute confusion that disrupted citizens' daily lives was a mere incident caused by a false alarm. It should not end as a simple incident. What was the purpose of the emergency disaster message that did not include a single word about ‘why’ or ‘where’ to evacuate?"
He continued, "Because it is an emergency, it must be more systematic and accurate. Inaccurate disaster messages that cause anxiety can lead to greater disasters. Moreover, this incident was not an unexpected natural disaster but a predicted North Korean space launch. There was enough time to prepare," criticizing the Seoul city government and Mayor Oh.
Park stated, "North Korea’s actions, which violate the UN Security Council resolutions, must be rightfully condemned. However, what must be more strictly inspected and addressed is our government and local governments’ ability to respond to crisis situations," adding, "Amateur administration that only stirs anxiety instead of solving problems must no longer continue. Mayor Oh must take heavy responsibility for the Boy Who Cried Wolf incident."
