On the 26th, the ‘Car-Free Day’ held around Kyung Hee University Food Alley received great response… Plans to expand the event in the future
"I was able to enjoy the festive atmosphere near my home without any burden, and since there were many university students, I felt rejuvenated as well."
A resident who visited the Kyung Hee University Food Alley ‘Car-Free Day’ shared their impression.
Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) successfully concluded the ‘Car-Free Day’ held around Kyung Hee University Food Alley on the 26th.
The ‘Car-Free Day,’ held for the first time around Kyung Hee University Food Alley, was organized to coincide with the Kyung Hee University Spring Festival, creating a festive space where residents, merchants, and university students could come together. Approximately 6,000 people visited the Kyung Hee University Food Alley to enjoy the event.
Since the event took place in the alley, thorough management was conducted to prevent safety accidents. On the 25th, the Dongdaemun Police Station and Dongdaemun Fire Station conducted a joint inspection, and safety management personnel, including district employees and police officers, received prior training before being deployed on-site during the event day.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, also visited the ‘Car-Free Day’ site that day to check on safety conditions and engaged in various discussions with residents about event satisfaction and areas for improvement.
The district plans to continuously expand the ‘Car-Free Day’ by discovering themed streets within the district, starting with the Kyung Hee University Food Alley.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We implemented the ‘Car-Free Day’ for the first time to develop Dongdaemun-gu into a ‘city you want to stay in’ with ‘culture’ and ‘freedom,’ and I am deeply moved by the enthusiastic response we received. Moving forward, we will discover more unique themed streets in Dongdaemun-gu and hold even more enjoyable ‘Car-Free Day’ events filled with attractions.”
