Regional Group Company Partners Health Managers Council Held
Gwangyang Steelworks "Leading the Spread of Healthy Work Environments in the Local Community"
Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) has embarked on establishing a health promotion collaboration system to share health management strategies between POSCO group companies and partner firms and to enhance the quality of life for workers.
At the Technical Training Center, Gwangyang Steelworks held the ‘Gwangyang Regional Industrial Health Committee and Health Managers Council’ to conduct lectures aimed at strengthening the capabilities of health managers from POSCO group companies and partner firms in the Gwangyang area and to discuss the establishment of an advanced health management system.

The council was attended by health managers (persons in charge) from seven POSCO group companies including POSCO Future M, POSCO DX, POSCO Humans, POSCO Plantec, POSCO HY Clean Methanol, POSCO MC Materials, SNNC, as well as 21 partner firms.
The participation of not only POSCO group companies but also partner firms in the Gwangyang area signifies a win-win council that works together with the local community.
The council, hosted by the Health Promotion Center responsible for employee health management at Gwangyang Steelworks, featured lectures introducing excellent health management cases at Gwangyang Steelworks and shared know-how to design customized health promotion strategies for workers.
The lectures began with an introduction to the health management system at Gwangyang Steelworks, followed by presentations on POSCO group’s industrial health strategies and the company’s outstanding management cases.
During this session, cases of follow-up management conducted by Gwangyang Steelworks for workers diagnosed with diseases during health checkups were shared.
Through this, each partner firm was provided with relevant know-how to design tailored health strategies for their own workers, adding depth to the lecture content.
In particular, considering that partner firm employees often work night shifts and rotating shifts and that their health management system for sleep disorders is relatively insufficient compared to Gwangyang Steelworks, a lecture was also held to address sleep disorder issues.
Until now, partner firms lacked specific manuals to respond to sleep disorder problems among their workers.
Therefore, this council introduced specific follow-up management measures by type of sleep disorder, such as work shift changes and work schedule adjustments, to these partner firms, and shared multifaceted sleep disorder prevention know-how including lifestyle habits that induce sleep and stretching exercises.
A representative from a partner firm who attended the council said, “This opportunity has enabled us to prepare more effective measures to address our workers’ sleep disorder issues,” adding, “We expect this will also improve the safety of the work environment.”
Additionally, practical discussions were held to share the current health status of each workplace and derive improvement plans, and consultations were conducted to establish customized health management systems for each partner firm.
Previously, Gwangyang Steelworks had held health manager conferences aimed at strengthening health management capabilities for full-time health managers in the Gwangyang area, which received great responses from local partner firms.
The council held this time is notable for expanding the scope from past conferences, which invited only full-time health managers such as nurses, to include all health personnel within partner firms.
Park Eun-hyang, Manager of the Health Promotion Center at Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “Through the Industrial Health Committee council, we will strengthen the industrial health work collaboration system between POSCO group companies and partner firms in the Gwangyang area,” adding, “We will take the lead in spreading a healthy working environment in the Gwangyang community by raising health management standards and establishing a preventive health management system.”
