Hyundai Mobis is investing 154 billion KRW to establish an automotive module production facility in the Poseung (BIX) district of Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. Gyeonggi Province expects that approximately 500 new jobs will be created once the production facility is completed.
On the 30th, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon signed an investment agreement on this matter at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government office with Hyundai Mobis CEO Cho Sung-hwan and Pyeongtaek Mayor Jeong Jang-seon.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon responded, "After taking office last year and reorganizing the organization at the end of the year, we created the Future Growth Industry Bureau, and one of the departments established then is the Advanced Mobility Industry Division. I believe that advanced mobility will play a role as significant as, if not greater than, semiconductors in future growth industries. I am very pleased, grateful, and welcoming of this investment."
He continued, "The K-Future Car Valley is gradually being completed through the linkage of the Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, and Siheung automotive industry belt with the autonomous driving hubs in Pangyo and Gimpo. I believe that great synergy effects will occur as it integrates with semiconductors, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI). Not only Hyundai Mobis but also for any needs in advanced mobility, we will discuss and cooperate to the fullest extent possible. We will work as one team," he added.
Hyundai Mobis plans to establish a module factory on a 47,891㎡ (14,487 pyeong) site in the Poseung district of Pyeongtaek, starting construction in July this year with a target completion date of July next year. Mass production will begin in February 2025.
This Hyundai Mobis module factory is a production facility designed to support the nearby finished car plant located in Hwaseong. It represents the largest investment amount among Hyundai Mobis's domestic module production bases.
Following Hyundai Mobis's first investment in the Poseung (BIX) district of Pyeongtaek in 2020, this additional larger-scale investment has positioned the Poseung (BIX) district as Hyundai Mobis's forward base for module supply.
Hyundai Mobis participates in design, testing, and research from the vehicle development stage and supplies modules to finished cars using a direct line method (producing necessary parts in the required form and order and supplying them at the needed time).
In particular, Hyundai Mobis is developing new concept modules in line with the expansion of electric vehicles and future mobility. By supplying module specifications tailored to finished cars in real time, it is expected to contribute to enhancing production efficiency, securing quality competitiveness, and strengthening the competitiveness of finished cars.
