Reducing Logistics Costs
Boosting the Tourism Industry
The long-awaited project of Cheongsong County residents, the ‘Samjahyeon Tunnel,’ is set to open.
Cheongsong County in Gyeongbuk announced that the ‘Samjahyeon Tunnel National Road Construction Project,’ which was started by the Busan Regional Land Management Office on July 5, 2017, is scheduled to be completed on June 7.
Prior to this, the Samjahyeon Tunnel will have a temporary opening on May 31 (regulated speed 30 km/h), and will officially open on June 7 (regulated speed 60 km/h).
The ‘Samjahyeon Tunnel National Road Construction Project’ is a road construction project connecting Dopyeong-ri in Hyeondong-myeon to Daejeon-ri in Bunam-myeon along National Road No. 31, with a total project cost of 49.354 billion KRW (national funds). It includes road development of L=4.7 km (2 lanes), two tunnels within the section (Samjahyeon Tunnel 1 L=874 m, Samjahyeon Tunnel 2 L=319 m), one bridge (Samjahyeon Bridge L=80 m), and two intersections (one at-grade, one rotary).
Cheongsong County expects that with the completion of the construction, it will greatly contribute to improving the transportation environment by promoting regional development, balanced national land development, as well as enhancing traffic convenience and road safety.
County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee said, “With improved accessibility due to the opening of the Samjahyeon Tunnel, economic effects such as reduced logistics costs will be generated,” and added, “It will also greatly help boost the tourism industry and resolve traffic inconveniences.”
