KCC Supports Settlement of Korean Diaspora... Donates 100 Million Won

KCC Supports Settlement of Korean Diaspora... Donates 100 Million Won

On the 30th, KCC announced that it donated 100 million won to Korea Habitat to improve the residential environment of the Gwangju Goryeoin Village.

At the donation ceremony for Goryeoin Village held on the 25th at Gwangsan-gu Office in Gwangju Metropolitan City, 11 officials including Park Byeong-gyu, head of Gwangsan-gu Office, Im Geun-hong, branch manager of KCC Gwangju Sales Office, Lee Cheon-young, principal of the Goryeoin Village Corporation, and Lee Gwang-hoe, secretary general of Korea Habitat, attended to discuss practical support measures. KCC plans to renovate vacant houses and improve the surrounding environment to ensure the stable settlement of the Goryeoin compatriots, deploying KCC’s professional personnel and high-quality eco-friendly building materials.

There are about 70,000 Goryeoin residing in Korea, of which about 7,000, or 10%, live in a clustered community in Gwangju Goryeoin Village. This support will be used to provide a shelter, which has become insufficient due to the increasing number of single women among the Goryeoin compatriots entering Korea, to offer a stable living environment and create conditions for self-reliance. KCC plans to conduct an on-site inspection in May, start construction, and aim to complete the project in the second half of this year.

Shin Jo-ya, representative of Goryeoin Village, said, "Currently, there is a shelter for men in Goryeoin Village, but no shelter for women, which has caused many difficulties. Through KCC’s support this time, it will greatly help improve the settlement conditions for female compatriots and enhance the village’s competitiveness."

A KCC official stated, "Many people have returned to their homeland dreaming of new hope, but in reality, they face many social and economic difficulties. We hope this shelter will help heal some of their pain and wounds and become a warm home for a better life."

Meanwhile, since 2018, KCC has been continuing social contribution programs such as 'On Neighborhood Forest' and 'Saetteul Village Project,' which are carried out by the government, private companies, and non-profit organizations working together to improve poor residential areas into safe and pleasant environments for six years.
