‘Shall We Dance’ Latin Dance Performance Held
National Mokpo University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced that as the second event of the ‘Honey Jam Campus Program where leisure and culture come alive,’ it held the Jam Fringe ‘Shall We Dance’ on the 30th at Mokpo University Dorim Campus for students and local residents.
Jam Fringe is a compound word combining the ‘Jam (Joy 재미, Activity 참여 활동, Moving 감동)’ of the Honey Jam Campus and the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival of street arts in the UK, expressing the ambition to turn Mokpo University campus into a venue for street arts where students and local residents participate together.

Following the previous African music performance (titled: Africa of the Sun), Mokpo University invited ‘Ri Dance Company,’ composed of Latin dance national representatives, professional champions, and national competition award winners, this time focusing on Latin music.
Ri Dance Company performed traditional Latin dances such as Cha-cha, Rumba, Samba, and fusion dances combining the latest K-pop with Latin rhythms for about an hour from noon in front of the fountain at Dorim Campus, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Yoon Hye-yeon, a third-year student majoring in Japanese Language and Literature who watched the performance, said, “I have occasionally watched dance sports videos recommended on YouTube, but the Latin dance performance held outdoors in broad daylight felt very different from YouTube videos,” adding, “Although it was a brief moment, I felt as if I were traveling in a place like Spain and watching locals dance in a plaza.”
Park Sun-wook, the chief researcher who planned the performance, said, “I am grateful for the support given to the second performance, Shall We Dance, following the previous Africa of the Sun,” and added, “We will continue to prepare diverse performance programs so that students and local residents associate the ‘Mokpo University Fountain’ with exciting performances.”
Meanwhile, the Honey Jam Campus is one of President Song Ha-cheol’s pledges to make Mokpo University a cultural and artistic hub of the region. It is a program that operates regular performances throughout the semester on campus for students and local residents to enjoy. On the 23rd, the African percussion group ‘Yanapo’ was invited to successfully hold the ‘Africa of the Sun’ performance.
