A middle school student who killed a man in his 70s after being caught trying to steal money to buy game items was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The Supreme Court's First Division (Presiding Justice Kim Seon-su) announced on the 30th that it upheld the original sentence of 15 years imprisonment for A (16), who was charged with robbery-murder and attempted arson of an inhabited building.
A was indicted for killing a woman in her 70s, the homeowner, after breaking into a house in Geoje-si, Gyeongnam Province last February to steal money. It was investigated that A broke into the victim's house to obtain money to purchase game items.
The first and second trials stated, "Although there are some circumstances that may be taken into consideration, such as being subjected to school violence leading to the crime, murder is an extremely serious crime that cannot be tolerated," and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. The Supreme Court also agreed with the lower courts' judgment.
