The ‘Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency × CJ ENM Webtoon Contest’ is co-hosted by Busan City, the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, and CJ ENM, aiming to discover talented webtoon creators in the Busan area and to motivate students currently enrolled in webtoon-related departments in Busan to create works.

This contest is open to any creators residing in the Busan area, creators affiliated with the Busan-Gyeongnam Cartoonists Association, or university students studying in Busan, regardless of genre. From the 30th to September 8, applicants must submit a prologue (no length limit) and a completed short webtoon of at least 140 panels, along with the application form, via email.

Afterward, submitted works will be evaluated and judged to select one grand prize winner, one excellence award winner, and three merit award winners. The grand prize winner will receive a cash prize of 5 million KRW, the excellence award winner will receive 3 million KRW, and the merit award winners will receive 2 million KRW each. All five winners will be given the opportunity to have their works considered for video adaptation by CJ ENM.

Notably, the award ceremony for this webtoon contest will be held together with the opening ceremony of the Busan Webtoon Festival, which was held fully offline last year and attracted much attention from Busan citizens. Detailed information about the contest can be found on the websites of the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency and the Busan Webtoon Platform.

Kim Ki-hwan, Director of the Culture and Sports Bureau of Busan City, stated, “Through this contest, we hope to discover excellent Busan content and, based on this, for Busan to become the undisputed center of One Source Multi-Use (OSMU) content.” He added, “We ask for much interest and support for this contest so that creators with high potential can have good opportunities.”

One Source Multi-Use refers to a marketing strategy that applies a single source material across various different genres to maximize ripple effects.
