Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province signed a sister city agreement with Wonju City in Gangwon Province on the 30th to promote mutual exchange and friendship cooperation.
At the signing ceremony, Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin said, "Wonju, which has attracted enterprise cities and innovation cities and has been recognized by UNESCO as a City of Culture and Creativity, shares many similarities with our Seongnam City, a 'city of hope for advanced technology and innovation.'" He added, "By discovering and fostering specialized projects suitable for both Seongnam and Wonju through sustainable exchanges, it will greatly help enhance the competitiveness of both cities."
He continued, "This year marks the 50th anniversary of Seongnam City's elevation to city status. Through the sister city relationship with Wonju, let us create an opportunity for Seongnam and Wonju to cooperate and grow together toward the future beyond the next 50 years."
The sister city agreement between the two regions on this day was a follow-up measure after the Wonju City’s sister city proposal last year and the approval of the 'Agreement on Sister City Relationship with Wonju City' by the city council in February this year.
According to the sister city agreement, the two regions will promote sustainable exchanges in various fields such as administration, economic industry, and cultural tourism based on mutual respect and trust to enhance friendship. They will also cooperate to improve the interests and quality of life of residents in both regions.
The main cooperation projects include ▲ discovering projects to foster the 4th industrial revolution and new growth engines ▲ increasing citizens' leisure culture and revitalizing tourism resources through arts, festivals, and performances ▲ exchanging information on excellent administrative policies ▲ and promoting direct transactions of excellent local agricultural and specialty products.
