Come See the 'World Hat Festival'... Held in Sangju, Gyeongbuk in October

The Hat Festival, where rare hats from around the world can be seen, will be held for the first time in Korea in Sangju, Gyeongbuk.


On the 30th, Sangju City announced, "From October 13 to 15, the '2023 Sangju World Hat Festival' will be held for the first time at the Taepyeongseongdae Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park in Sangju for three days."

Come See the 'World Hat Festival'... Held in Sangju, Gyeongbuk in October A traditional Korean music group from Sangju is promoting the Mother and Child Festival, which will be held in Sangju this October, at Samsung Lions Park plaza in downtown Daegu.

Kang Young-seok, mayor of Sangju, said, "The first festival in Korea themed around hats will be held in Sangju. We will do our best to make this festival a representative festival of Korea."


From April 17 to May 19, Sangju City also held a contest offering prizes of 1 million won for gold and 500,000 won for silver to collect ideas related to the Sangju Hat Festival.


An official from the city said, "We received about 400 submissions from the idea contest. We understand that the local judging is currently underway."


On the 26th, a traditional Korean music group from Sangju promoted the Sangju Hat Festival at the Samsung Lions Park event plaza in downtown Daegu.


A Sangju city official said, "Since hats are significant as symbols of clothing, we are preparing the hat festival. We have also formed a promotion committee and allocated a budget of 1 billion won earlier this year. We are fully engaged in preparing the festival and plan to reveal detailed festival plans in June."


Until now, no hat-related festivals have been held in Korea, and it is known that a Hat Museum is operated in Jeonju, Jeonbuk.
