Smoke-Free Eco-Friendly Mist Disinfection for a Comfortable Environment
Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jin-won) has launched an intensive summer pest control disinfection campaign targeting vulnerable areas such as riversides and puddles, densely populated areas, and tourist spots to eradicate pests like mosquitoes, flies, and ticks as the hot weather begins in earnest.

According to the county health center on the 30th, since May, disinfection teams in 11 towns and townships have been conducting disinfection more than 4 to 5 times a week.
Disinfection is concentrated between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., when mosquito activity is most active. Fogging disinfection is performed in outskirts with dense vegetation or in puddles, ponds, rivers, and grasslands where mosquitoes breed; portable spray disinfection is used in places like storm drains or areas difficult for vehicles to access; and mist disinfection, which is harmless to humans, is carried out in densely populated areas to increase efficiency.
In particular, recently, eco-friendly and human-safe mist disinfection has been emphasized.
Mist disinfection is an eco-friendly pest control method that sprays insecticide particles mixed with water in the form of steam, killing pests on contact. It does not use diesel fuel, resulting in less environmental pollution, and unlike fogging disinfection, it does not produce white smoke, which means there is no visual obstruction.
However, some residents, not seeing the white smoke they were accustomed to during traditional disinfection, misunderstand that the disinfection is ineffective. The county is actively promoting the advantages of mist disinfection through town and township officials and the media.
A county health center official stated, “We expect this summer’s heat to be severe, and to prevent infectious disease outbreaks, we plan to continue regular and sustained disinfection in vulnerable areas.”
