On the 30th, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk held a ‘Gumi City Population Policy Progress Report Meeting’ attended by more than 80 people, including department heads.

If You Are a Gumi Citizen, Check This First... Pride and Satisfaction↑ Special Benefits Gumi City Hall.

This report meeting was organized to review the progress of about 90 population policy projects discovered since last year to respond to population decline and revitalize the region, as well as to check future plans and cooperation measures between departments.

In particular, the meeting focused on not only key policies to address population decline but also on strengthening support for new residents moving into the city and enhancing special benefits exclusively available to Gumi citizens, which the city has been diligently promoting recently.

▲ The city first decided to significantly enhance benefits for new residents. Starting from the second half of this year (August 2023), Gumi agricultural products such as 10kg of Ilseonjeongpum rice will be given as moving-in gifts per household, and moving-in support funds of 200,000 KRW per year for one year will be provided to high school and university students who have relocated to Gumi.

Additionally, to make the benefits immediately tangible for citizens who have moved to Gumi, various advantages regarding public facility usage fees have been prepared. From the second half of this year, free use of public parking lots will be offered for one year from the date of moving in, and a 50% discount will be provided for about 12 planned performances held annually at the Culture and Arts Center.

Furthermore, new residents will be given two free horseback riding experiences at the Gumi Riding Center, and usage fees for the Gumi Video Media Center, scheduled to open in October this year, will be waived for one year.

▲ In addition to benefits for new residents, benefits for existing citizens will also be expanded. The Gumi Camping Site, popular all year round and difficult to reserve, has implemented a 50% priority reservation system exclusively for Gumi citizens since May, and a 30% discount is also provided for planned performances at the Culture and Arts Center.

Moreover, citizen discount rates are currently applied as follows: 50% at Gumi Eco Land and the Park Chung-hee Presidential Historical Museum, 40% at Okseong Natural Recreation Forest, and 20% at Gumi Camping Site and Silla Buddhism First Propagation Village. For sports facilities such as the Olympic Memorial Hall, Geumo Tennis Court, and Gupo Sports Park, the city plans to maintain existing fees for Gumi citizens even if prices increase due to inflation in the future.

Furthermore, the city is promoting the introduction of a simple citizen verification system that allows citizens to receive discounts and use facilities conveniently without the hassle of preparing cumbersome supporting documents when using each facility.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho emphasized, “To overcome the population decline crisis and revitalize the region, joint response and cooperation among all departments are necessary,” adding, “While discovering new projects is important, we will also carefully review existing projects and strive to enhance regional population vitality and create a city where all citizens are happy by developing differentiated benefits exclusively for citizens.”

The city plans to continue discovering various benefits such as priority reservations for Gumi Camping Site and additional discounts for planned performances for new residents and Gumi citizens, as well as fee reductions for public parking lots for Gumi citizens, aiming to raise pride and satisfaction as Gumi citizens and concentrate all efforts on overcoming the population decline trend.
