Classical Melodies Embroidering the Han River... Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra's 'Riverside Concert' on June 3

The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (hereinafter referred to as the Seoul Philharmonic) announced on the 30th that it will hold the '2023 Seoul Philharmonic Riverside Concert' on June 3rd at the Multipla Event Plaza in Yeouido Hangang Park, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.

This concert will be conducted by David Lee, the associate conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic, with soprano Hong Ju-young and tenor Baek Seok-jong performing together on stage.


The program is designed with a variety of masterpieces and opera works so that all citizens can easily and enjoyably appreciate classical music. The concert will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display decorating the early summer night sky against the backdrop of the Hangang River.


The performance opens with Tchaikovsky's "Polonaise" from "Eugene Onegin." This is followed by selections from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" suite, including "Sc?ne" and "Waltz." Soprano Hong Ju-young will sing "Jewel Song" from Gounod's "Faust" and "Mi chiamano Mimi" from Puccini's "La Boh?me." Tenor Baek Seok-jong will perform "Ingrato" by Cardillo and "Nessun dorma" from Puccini's "Turandot." Together with Hong Ju-young, he will also present the "Brindisi" from Verdi's "La Traviata."


Additionally, the Seoul Philharmonic will showcase the diverse charms of classical music and opera to the public with beautiful classical masterpieces such as Borodin's "Polovtsian Dances" from "Prince Igor" and Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance March."


Since 2011, the Seoul Philharmonic has held the "Riverside Concert" annually outdoors at Nodul Island and Hangang Park to help citizens understand classical music more closely and easily. Anyone can attend free of charge without prior registration, and the 2,000 seats prepared in Hangang Park are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Citizens can also freely enjoy the music around the seating area using blankets and portable chairs they bring themselves.


Visitors can conveniently reach the venue by using Yeouinaru Station on Subway Line 5. For citizens who find it difficult to visit the venue, a live broadcast will be available through the Seoul Philharmonic and Seoul City's "Live Seoul" YouTube channels.
