On the 29th, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it was selected as an excellent institution in the '2023 Disaster Management Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award along with securing a special grant of 80 million won.
This evaluation is conducted annually targeting 335 disaster management responsible institutions nationwide, including central government ministries, local governments, and public institutions, to enhance the national level of disaster management. It comprehensively assesses disaster management capabilities and rates each institution into three grades: excellent, average, and poor.
As a result, Buk-gu received the highest grade, excellent, and was identified as the top among autonomous districts in Gwangju City.
Buk-gu received uniformly excellent evaluations across various disaster safety fields, including expanded financial investment, disaster management fund administration, establishment of preemptive response systems, implementation of measures to minimize climate disaster damage, securing disaster relief infrastructure, and management capabilities of recovery projects.
A Buk-gu official stated, "Being selected as the best institution this time is the result of our efforts to protect residents' lives and property from disasters," adding, "We will prioritize the safety of residents and devote all efforts to disaster prevention."
