Hyundai Motor Group Recruits Former Protocol Secretary Kim Il-beom as Vice President

Scheduled to Start Activities from July
Likely to Handle Overseas Tasks

It was reported on the 29th that Kim Il-beom, former Protocol Secretary at the Presidential Office, has been recruited as a Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group.


Kim, the former secretary, is expected to start his role as Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group as early as July. Currently, he is reportedly undergoing the 'Employment Review for Retired Public Officials' process by the Government Ethics Committee for Public Officials.

Kim is expected to be in charge of overseas operations at Hyundai Motor Group. With Kim's extensive diplomatic experience and network, Hyundai Motor Group is anticipated to strengthen its connections with major governments, parliaments, and institutions worldwide, and enhance its policy decision-making capabilities in overseas markets.


Kim graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Political Science and Diplomacy and began his career as a diplomat after passing the foreign service examination. Notably, he served as the English interpreter for three presidents: Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Lee Myung-bak. In 2019, while serving as the Director of the North America Division 2 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he moved to SK Group as Vice President of the SK Group's SUPEX Council, handling important overseas affairs for SK Group. Last year, he served as the foreign press public relations aide to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol at the Presidential Transition Committee and later served as Protocol Secretary at the Presidential Office following the inauguration of the Yoon administration. Kim resigned in March.
