Muan-gun to Conduct Comprehensive Survey of Unregistered Groundwater Facilities by December

Incorporation of Facilities into the System, Restoration of Unused and Neglected Facilities to Original State

Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) will conduct a full survey of unregistered groundwater facilities in the area from the end of this month until December.

According to the county on the 29th, this full survey follows the recent selection of the local government as the target for the "2023 Unregistered Groundwater Facilities Full Survey Project" by the Ministry of Environment (executed by Korea Water Resources Corporation).

Although groundwater-related laws were enacted in 1993, problems of groundwater pollution have arisen due to indiscriminate groundwater development, use, and abandonment of facilities after use.

During this full survey period, a professional survey company selected by Korea Water Resources Corporation will conduct on-site inspections, facility specifications surveys, and owner inquiries and interviews for unregistered groundwater facilities in the area.

Facilities currently in use will be incorporated into the system (converted to registration), and unused abandoned facilities will be restored to their original state or pollution prevention projects will be promoted.

Additionally, a voluntary groundwater reporting period will be operated in the second half of this year (from July 2023 to June 2024). Groundwater facilities voluntarily reported during this period will be reviewed for compliance with relevant laws, followed by water quality tests and benefits such as exemption from fines and performance bonds, aiming to resolve illegal groundwater issues.

Governor Kim San said, "This full survey of unregistered groundwater facilities is an essential project for sustainable groundwater environmental conservation," and added, "To prevent water pollution, we ask for cooperation in legalizing facilities currently in use through this survey and voluntary reporting, and in closing unused facilities."
