"'Money Envelope' Allegation: Song Young-gil Says, 'If You Investigate Me, You Must Also Investigate President Yoon'"

Former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil argued, "If Song Young-gil is to be investigated as the ultimate beneficiary of the money envelope controversy, then President Yoon Seok-yeol, the ultimate beneficiary of the 'Tae Young-ho recording,' should also be investigated."

It is analyzed that former leader Song, who is under prosecution as the beneficiary of the money envelope allegations triggered by the 'Lee Jeong-geun (former Democratic Party Deputy Secretary-General) recording,' attempted a political counterattack by referring to the recording of Tae Young-ho, former Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, which sparked the 'Presidential Office nomination interference controversy.'

Former leader Song said, "Looking at the 'Tae Young-ho recording,' the ultimate beneficiary of the Gangnam-gu nomination in exchange for support and praise of the President's Korea-Japan diplomacy is President Yoon," adding, "An investigation into President Yoon, the ultimate beneficiary of the incident, is inevitable."

Earlier, MBC reported on the 1st that it had obtained a recording of former Supreme Council member Tae speaking to his aides at the National Assembly members' office building on March 9, stating that "Lee Jin-bok, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs at the Presidential Office, requested supportive remarks regarding Korea-Japan relations while mentioning the nomination issue."

He added, "A civic group has already filed a complaint with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) against former Supreme Council member Tae and others for abuse of power," urging, "The CIO should promptly conduct active investigations such as raids and travel bans on former Supreme Council member Tae and Senior Secretary Lee, just as the prosecution is investigating the money envelope case based on the 'Lee Jeong-geun recording.'"
