Growing Interest in Plant-Based Burgers Amid Health Food Trend
100% Plant-Based 'Better Nugget' to Launch Next Month
Shinsegae Food announced on the 29th that the 'Better Burger' from No Brand Burger, made with 100% plant-based ingredients, surpassed cumulative sales of 20,000 units within ten days of its launch.
Released on the 16th, the Better Burger is made entirely from plant-based ingredients, including the 100% plant-based burger bun 'Better Bun' and the plant-based alternative meat 'Better Meat' patty, both developed using Shinsegae Food's own food tech capabilities. It also features recently developed plant-based cheese and sauce, making all four main burger ingredients plant-based. The company explained that among global burger franchises, No Brand Burger's Better Burger is the first to include plant-based cheese.
The Better Burger's use of 100% plant-based ingredients aligns well with the health food trend spreading mainly among younger generations, attracting significant attention. In fact, among customers enjoying the Better Burger as a set, over 30% have exchanged the standard side menu of French fries for a mini green salad, exceeding the initially expected exchange rate by more than double. Shinsegae Food analyzed that the preference for healthy food is rapidly spreading among the main burger consumer group, the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z).
Shinsegae Food plans to introduce various plant-based menus through the low-carbon healthy menu group 'Better Choice,' operated by No Brand Burger. To this end, they will release the 'Better Nugget' next month, which replicates the taste and texture of chicken nuggets using 100% plant-based ingredients.
A Shinsegae Food representative stated, "We plan to continue expanding consumers' menu choices and widely promote the social value of alternative foods by introducing various menus."
