20s Woman Arrested for Murder and Body Disposal of Peer Woman Met Through App, Detention Hearing Held

A pretrial detention hearing is underway for a woman accused of murdering a woman in her 20s, whom she met through an app, and then mutilating and abandoning the body.

The Busan District Court began the hearing for Ms. A at around 2:30 p.m. on the 29th. Ms. A appeared at the court at 1:53 p.m. that day, wearing a black hat pulled down and a mask.

When reporters asked Ms. A about her motive for the murder, she lowered her head and entered the courtroom without saying a word.

According to the police, Ms. A is suspected of killing Ms. B, a woman in her 20s whom she met through a part-time job app, with a weapon around 6 p.m. on the 26th, and then mutilating the body.

After mutilating Ms. B’s corpse, Ms. A placed it in a travel suitcase and took a taxi around 3 a.m. on the 27th, getting off between Hopo Station and Mulgeum Station in Yangsan, Gyeongnam, then abandoning the body and suitcase in the nearby Nakdong River riverside bushes.

The taxi driver noticed bloodstains on the suitcase and found it suspicious when Ms. A asked to be dropped off in a secluded area at dawn, so he reported it to the police.

Police who arrived confirmed parts of the corpse and Ms. B’s ID card in the suitcase and made an emergency arrest of Ms. A around 6 a.m. that day. The rest of the body was found at Ms. B’s residence.

A police official stated, “Ms. A claims the crime was impulsive,” and added, “We are conducting an investigation to determine the exact motive.”
