Maintenance of Defective Overhead Lines from May to November: 452 Utility Poles, 163 Communication Poles, Total Length 21.415 km
Securing Urban Aesthetics and Preventing Safety Accidents
Yongsan-gu will focus on maintaining defective overhead lines tangled in the backstreets of Seogye-dong.
Defective overhead lines, such as communication lines that have been abandoned and not removed after use, are disorderly tangled on utility poles, damaging urban aesthetics and posing safety risks.
The maintenance volume includes 452 utility poles, 163 communication poles, totaling 21 km in length. The period is from this month through November. The targets are ▲excessively long slack lines ▲abandoned or misrouted lines ▲lines that are cut or sagging within the section △service lines connecting to buildings and houses.
The cost of overhead line maintenance is about 1 billion KRW. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), KT, LG Uplus, SK Telecom, SK Broadband, and D'Live have formed a maintenance promotion team and are carrying out the project with their own budgets.
The district selected the Seogye-dong area, where overhead line maintenance is urgent excluding redevelopment and undergrounding planned areas, as the priority maintenance zone in March. The main sections include Cheongparo 71ga-gil, 73-gil, 73 na-gil, 75-gil, 77-gil, and 85ga-gil.
A district official said, “This area is an old downtown with steep slopes and narrow alleys, making maintenance difficult,” and added, “Maintenance will be conducted with consideration for worker safety.”
The district will assist residents with publicity and support to ensure smooth overhead line maintenance, facilitating access to maintenance workers on building rooftops, securing workspaces, and parking for work vehicles.
In addition to the maintenance sections, if complaints about overhead lines are received at the overhead line maintenance call center, simple abandoned lines and sagging cables will be immediately repaired through on-site visits.
Kim Seonsu, Acting Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Seogye-dong near Seobu Station is an area densely populated with old and defective houses,” and added, “While proceeding with administrative procedures necessary for housing redevelopment, overhead line maintenance to prevent safety accidents will also be carried out simultaneously.”
Since 2013, the district has operated an ‘Overhead Line Maintenance Promotion Team’ with electric and communication service providers and has maintained 5,702 utility poles, 1,861 communication poles, and 217 km of defective overhead lines in old residential alleys up to 2022.
