Russia Conducts Another Night Air Raid on Kyiv... Ukraine Claims Russia Plans Nuclear Power Plant Attack

More than 10 Attacks Since the Beginning of This Month

The capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, was once again attacked on the 28th (local time) by Russian forces using dozens of suicide drones.

The Kyiv city authorities announced that they shot down at least 20 Russian suicide drones overnight. Vitali Klychko, the mayor of Kyiv, stated on his Telegram channel, "The air defense units have already shot down more than 20 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) heading towards Kyiv. However, drones are still swarming towards the capital," urging citizens to stay in air raid shelters.

He reported that a 41-year-old man died after being hit by drone debris that crashed at a gas station in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, and at least three others were injured. He also added that a fire broke out in a nearby seven-story building.

Foreign media reported that the Solomianskyi district in western Kyiv is a hub for railway and air transportation. Kyiv authorities also stated that a fire broke out on the roof of a nine-story building in the Pecherskyi district, which is densely packed with cultural heritage sites, due to drone debris.

Russia carried out a large-scale nighttime air raid the previous night, marking more than ten attacks on Kyiv this month alone. There are speculations locally that this may be an attempt to disrupt the Ukrainian military's preparations for a 'counteroffensive' operation to push Russian forces beyond the border.

The Ukrainian military intelligence agency issued a statement claiming that Russian forces are planning a 'large-scale provocation' at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was occupied by Russian forces on March 4 last year, shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine. It is the largest single nuclear power plant in Europe. The Ukrainian military intelligence agency alleges that Russian forces intend to deliberately strike the Zaporizhzhia plant to cause radioactive leakage, prompting the international community to launch an investigation.
