Korea-Pacific Island Nations Summit to Be Held on 29-30
First In-Person Multilateral Summit... Busan International Expo Also Expected to Be Discussed

President Yoon Suk-yeol will hold bilateral talks with heads of state attending the 'Korea-Pacific Island Countries Summit' on the 28th. This is the first in-person multilateral summit hosted by Korea since the launch of the Yoon administration, where cooperation expansion plans will be discussed with leaders from Kiribati, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and others.

These leaders have come to Korea to attend the 'Korea-Pacific Island Countries Summit' on the 29th and 30th, which will be held alongside the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) with heads of state from 18 member countries and the PIF Secretary-General. The summit will be held under the theme "Voyage Toward Shared Prosperity: Strengthening Blue Pacific Cooperation."

About ten heads of state-level officials will attend this summit. In cases where attendance by a head of state is difficult, a senior official designated by the respective leader will attend on their behalf.

The meeting will be divided into two sessions. According to the Presidential Office, the first session, chaired by President Yoon, will review the current status of cooperation between Korea and the Pacific Island countries and exchange views on future cooperation directions.

The second session will be chaired by Mark Brown, Prime Minister of the Cook Islands, the chair country of the PIF, with agenda items including regional affairs and international cooperation measures. Mutual interests and cooperation topics related to the 2030 Busan World Expo may be intensively discussed. In line with this, PIF leaders will visit Busan on the 30th to tour the Bukhang area, which will serve as the venue for the Busan Expo.
