Construction of a 200-Bed Daegu Han Medical University Korean Medicine Hospital in Daegu Innovation City

Groundbreaking Ceremony on the 26th, Opening in September 2024

Daegu Hanui University Suseong Campus Also Relocating

On the morning of the 26th, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Daerim-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, marking the start of construction for a Korean Medicine Hospital equipped with state-of-the-art Korean medical equipment and top-tier facilities, alongside the relocation of Daegu Haany University’s Suseong Campus within the Innovation City. The hospital is scheduled to open on September 1, 2024.

The groundbreaking ceremony, attended by Lee Jong-hwa, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu, local members of the National Assembly, and other dignitaries, prayed for the successful establishment of the facility.

The Daegu Haany University campus and Korean Medicine Hospital to be built in Innovation City will be constructed on a site of 26,717㎡ (approximately 8,096 pyeong) with six floors above ground, investing about 72 billion KRW. It will start with 200 beds and 18 medical departments. Through joint research and development in the fields of Korean medicine pharmaceuticals and medical devices, the establishment of a collaborative system between Korean and Western medicine, and the creation of specialized centers, the university aims to become a global leader in partnership with the local community. Additionally, health-specialized programs targeting Innovation City workers and local residents are expected to contribute to the improvement of residents’ health.

Daegu City has been striving since 2018 to attract a general hospital to expand medical facilities, which had been the most requested improvement for living conditions by relocated public institution employees and residents.

Daegu Korean Medicine Hospital obtained approval for occupancy with a plan to build a specialized and distinctive hospital that meets the Innovation City residency standards, and after completing building permits and groundbreaking procedures, full-scale construction has now commenced.

Daegu City, together with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, applied last April for the ‘Innovation Convergence Campus’ project, which involves relocating some departments of Daegu Haany University to Innovation City to establish a university campus (a four-year support project with 3.2 billion KRW for campus construction and educational program operation costs). The city is currently awaiting the final selection results through the Ministry’s review.

Lee Young-heon, Daegu City’s Director of Metropolitan Cooperation, stated, “Through the relocation of Daegu Haany University campus and the establishment of the Korean Medicine Hospital, we will provide high-quality medical services that enhance the health of relocated public institution employees and residents of Dong-gu.”
