‘Visiting Youth Mind Guardians’ Operated Until November This Year
Placement of Professional Counselors in Schools to Provide Psychological Counseling Support for Youth Experiencing Psychological Difficulties
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is operating the ‘Visiting Youth Mind Guardians’ program targeting at-risk youth who are experiencing psychological difficulties.
To assist youth who cannot visit counseling centers in time, professional counselors visit schools directly to provide counseling and support psychological recovery. This is part of the 2023 Eunpyeong Future Education District Project aimed at identifying and supporting at-risk youth.
Professional counselors are assigned to schools without such staff to provide psychological counseling and service linkage support. The Mind Guardians program began in 2021 and has shown high satisfaction among participating schools.
This year, one professional counselor will be assigned to each of five schools until November. It is expected to prevent secondary psychological damage such as depression and anxiety among at-risk youth who have not received appropriate psychological counseling.
The project is carried out by the Eunpyeong-gu Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, which operates youth counseling services. The center provides youth hotline 1388, psychological testing, counseling, education, emergency rescue, protection, linkage, and consultation.
An Young-chun, Director of the Eunpyeong-gu Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, said, “We hope that youth in psychological crisis will escape secondary risks and regain psychological stability.”
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “We will spare no effort to provide various supports so that our growing youth can enjoy a healthy school life.”
