First Multilateral Summit Between Korea and Pacific Island Countries
President Yoon Suk-yeol will hold separate summit meetings with the leaders of five Pacific island countries on the 28th, the Presidential Office announced on the 27th. This is the first time a multilateral summit between Korea and Pacific island countries is being held.
According to the Presidential Office, President Yoon will have a summit meeting with President Taneti Maamau of Kiribati at 3 p.m. on the 28th at the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul.
He will then hold consecutive meetings with Prime Minister Siaosi Sovaleni of Tonga, Prime Minister Kausea Natano of Tuvalu, Prime Minister Ishmael Kalsakau of Vanuatu, and Prime Minister James Marape of Papua New Guinea.
These leaders visited Korea to attend the Korea-Pacific Island Countries Summit to be held on the 29th and 30th.
President Yoon invited the leaders of 18 member countries of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), including French overseas territories, and the PIF Secretary-General with their spouses to this meeting under the theme "Voyage Toward Shared Prosperity: Strengthening Blue Pacific Cooperation."
