President Yoon's Meeting with Ruling and Opposition Floor Leaders and Standing Committee Chairs Canceled on the 30th

It was reported on the 26th that the meeting scheduled for the 30th between President Yoon Seok-yeol, the floor leaders of the ruling and opposition parties, and the standing committee chairpersons, which had been quietly coordinated at the suggestion of National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo, has been canceled.

According to Yonhap News, it has become difficult for the meeting between President Yoon, the floor leaders of the ruling and opposition parties, and the standing committee chairpersons to take place within this month.

The meeting was proposed by Speaker Kim during a dinner held on the 12th at the Blue House's Sangchunjae with President Yoon and the leadership of the second half of the 21st National Assembly.

At that time, Speaker Kim requested President Yoon to hold a meeting between the floor leaders of both parties and the newly elected standing committee chairpersons at the end of this month, to which President Yoon responded, "Thank you for the good suggestion. I will attend."

Lee Jin-bok, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs at the Presidential Office, said during his visit to the National Assembly on the 15th regarding the consultative body between the ruling and opposition parties, "When the National Assembly leadership and the President met on the 12th, there was talk about creating a place for dialogue involving the floor leaders and standing committee chairpersons together, and that seems to be the starting point." He added, "Speaker Kim Jin-pyo said, 'The new standing committee chairpersons will be elected on May 30, so how about then?'"

However, as President Yoon exercised his right to request reconsideration (veto) on the Nursing Act bill, and the Democratic Party of Korea decided to hold a re-vote at the plenary session on the 30th, the political atmosphere cooled down, making it difficult for the meeting to proceed normally, and ultimately the meeting was canceled.
