'Man Who Killed Cohabiting Woman Reported for Dating Violence on Day of Crime'

A man in his 30s who stabbed a woman he was living with in the underground parking lot of a commercial building in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, was reported for dating violence in the early morning on the day of the crime.

On the 26th, the Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul announced that Mr. A (33), who was urgently arrested on suspicion of stabbing his cohabiting partner with a weapon (murder) that afternoon, had been reported for dating violence in the early morning of the day of the crime.


Mr. A is accused of stabbing the victim, Ms. B (47), multiple times with a weapon at around 7:17 a.m. in the underground parking lot of a commercial building located in Siheung-dong, Geumcheon-gu. The police stated that Mr. A and Ms. B were living together at a residence in Geumcheon-gu.


According to the police, at around 5:37 a.m. on the day of the crime, Mr. A was reported for dating violence and was voluntarily taken to a nearby police station for questioning. After the investigation, the police sent Mr. A home at 6:11 a.m., and the reporter, Ms. B, was sent back home about an hour later. Mr. A committed the crime approximately one hour after the investigation ended.


At around 10:40 a.m., police who responded to the report tracked Mr. A through CCTV and other means, and arrested him at around 3 p.m. in Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province, eight hours after the incident occurred. It is presumed that Mr. A fled with Ms. B in a vehicle after the crime. At the time of arrest, Mr. A was found lying over the driver's seat, and Ms. B was found dead in the back seat of the vehicle.


A police official stated that the specific motive for Mr. A’s crime and the cause of Ms. B’s death will be revealed through further investigation. The official also said, "We are also considering applying for an arrest warrant."
