CJ CheilJedang announced on the 26th that it will launch the ‘Temple-style King Dumplings,’ jointly developed with Doban HC, the business holding company of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.

CJ CheilJedang Launches 'Temple-Style Wang Gyoza' Without Meat and Allium Vegetables

The newly introduced Temple-style King Dumplings are made without meat and the five pungent vegetables (wild chives, garlic, leek, green onion, and onion) prohibited in Buddhism. Large pieces of vegetables such as cabbage, mung bean sprouts, radish, and Cheongyang chili peppers are added to enhance the texture, using only vegetable juice, salt, pepper, and sesame oil.

CJ CheilJedang conducted over two years of research on the food consumed by monks and devotees to faithfully reproduce the traditional Buddhist taste, receiving advice from temple food expert monks. Through this, the cooking method and flavor, true to the original temple cuisine, were recognized, earning positive reviews from the Buddhist community at a tasting event held before the launch.

To commemorate Buddha’s Birthday on the 27th, CJ CheilJedang will hold a tasting event for the Temple-style King Dumplings at ‘Doban Seungso,’ near Jogyesa Temple in Seoul, providing them to devotees and visitors to the temple. On-site sales will also be conducted so that many people can experience this temple-style convenience food. The Temple-style King Dumplings can be purchased not only by Buddhist devotees but also by anyone interested through the online shopping mall ‘Seungsomall.’

CJ CheilJedang plans to lead the popularization of temple cuisine and the health food trend through the development of various new products. To this end, it signed a business partnership agreement with Doban HC last month to jointly launch temple food products. Starting with the Temple-style King Dumplings, CJ CheilJedang will successively introduce japchae, porridge, soy meat, and gongyangbap, and will also establish a platform to make it easier for consumers to purchase these products.
