New Food is Data... Samsung Card Launches 'Data Alliance' Provided by Samsung Card

Samsung Card is forming a data alliance with five companies including Naver Cloud. They plan to jointly plan and sell various data products and participate not only in the private sector but also in government-led data projects.


On the 26th, Samsung Card announced the launch of the 'Data Alliance' created together with CJ OliveNetworks, Naver Cloud, NICE Information Service, Lotte Members, and others. The purpose is to provide more expanded data services by bringing together companies that possess diverse data and have extensive experience in utilizing it. They plan to actively engage in data projects in both the private and public sectors going forward.


Leading this data alliance, Samsung Card will provide card payment data, consumption data, member and merchant analysis data from its 12.6 million members. Previously, Samsung Card launched the industry's first big data marketing platform called 'LINK,' establishing a 'Persona' system that scores the usability and marketing tendencies of specific industries and products based on experiential data such as members' preferred industries and interests.


CJ OliveNetworks will supply logistics data including parcel items and delivery destination information based on online shopping, and plans to build a big data platform, provide marketing platforms, and conduct research surveys.


Naver Cloud will provide interest and trend information based on search and click data from Naver, the largest search portal in Korea, through its cloud data analysis platform.


NICE Information Service will provide credit and income information held by the credit bureau (CB). Additionally, it will support the provision of partner company information such as commercial district information, distribution information, online seller-exclusive information, and Kickworker information.


Lotte Members will provide consumption data related to distribution, dining, and entertainment from its 42 million members. It also plans to link with the research consulting service 'Lime' and the analysis consulting service 'Lab.'

Meanwhile, Samsung Card views data as a new growth engine and is expanding related businesses. Recently, it was preliminarily designated as a private data specialist institution by the Financial Services Commission and is preparing for full approval. A Samsung Card official stated, "With the launch of the Data Alliance, we will be able to provide customers with useful data products and services," adding, "We aim to establish a complete data business model encompassing 'data supplying companies, platform companies, and data specialist institutions.'"
