82 People in May... Former Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Vice Chairman An Seong-wook Tops Retirees with 9.6 Billion KRW

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission disclosed on the 26th the asset registration details of high-ranking public officials who were appointed or retired in February this year. Park Jong-min, Vice Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, reported total assets of 8.87 billion KRW, while Lee Do-woon, spokesperson of the Presidential Secretariat, declared assets totaling 4.7 billion KRW.

The asset disclosure targets include 82 high-ranking public officials whose status changed between February 2 and March 1, consisting of 21 newly appointed, 20 promoted, and 34 retired officials.

Among current high-ranking public officials, Park Jong-min, Vice Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, reported the largest assets totaling 886.672 million KRW. Vice Chairman Park declared real estate worth 6.41 billion KRW, including a 131.48㎡ apartment in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, jointly owned with his spouse (2.97 billion KRW), and two officetels owned by his spouse. He also held bank deposits amounting to 1.62 billion KRW.

Byun Il Bae, Chairman of the Korea Student Aid Foundation, reported total assets of 6.55 billion KRW, including land worth 2.19 billion KRW, buildings worth 1.95 billion KRW, and deposits of 2.36 billion KRW.

In the Presidential Secretariat, spokesperson Lee Do-woon held total assets of 4.71 billion KRW, including a 106.65㎡ apartment in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, jointly owned with his spouse (1.75 billion KRW), another Ichon-dong apartment jointly owned by his spouse and eldest daughter (1.52 billion KRW), and deposits of 990 million KRW.

Newly appointed Chief Secretary for Citizen Communication Jeon Gwang-sam declared total assets of 1.48 billion KRW, including buildings worth 1.18 billion KRW and deposits of 320 million KRW.

Among retirees in February, former Vice Chairman Ahn Seong-wook of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission reported the largest assets at 9.6 billion KRW. Former Vice Chairman Ahn owned an apartment in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul (3.59 billion KRW), an apartment in Jamwon-dong under his spouse’s name (3.02 billion KRW), and four commercial buildings owned by his spouse, with building assets totaling 7.56 billion KRW. Additionally, former Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology President Kim Ki-seon declared 8.31 billion KRW, and former Standing Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission Park Chan-woon reported 5 billion KRW.
