Jinju City Council Works Hard to Help with Spring Farming Season Labor Shortage

About 30 Assembly Members and Staff Visit Persimmon Farms in Daegok-myeon

The Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam rolled up their sleeves to help persimmon farmers struggling with labor shortages during the busy spring farming season.

On the 25th, about 30 people including Chairman Yang Hae-young, Jinju City Council members, and staff from the council office visited a persimmon farm in Yugok-ri, Daegok-myeon to assist with thinning persimmons to improve the marketability of the harvest.

Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam helped with farm work during the busy spring farming season.

On that day, Chairman Yang said, "I wanted to ease the difficulties faced by farmers due to the recent worsening labor shortage in rural areas, even if only a little," adding, "It was rewarding to directly help with the labor in addition to policy development."

The city council plans to continue assisting with farm labor alongside its main legislative activities in response to the full-scale farming season to support local farmers.

In the second half of last year, the council also visited two persimmon farms suffering from a double burden caused by a sharp drop in product prices due to a surge in persimmon shipments and rising labor costs, to help with harvest labor.

Additionally, this year, the city council has focused on resolving urgent issues and alleviating difficulties faced by local farmers by adopting two government petitions jointly proposed by all members, urging support for LMO and zucchini pumpkin farmers as well as fruit farmers affected by abnormal low temperatures during the flowering period.
