Prevention of Severe Diseases Such as Cardiovascular, Cerebrovascular, Kidney, and Cataracts
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will conduct complication tests for patients with hypertension and diabetes from June 15 to August 31.
The complication test targets are 80 registered hypertension and diabetes patients aged 30 or older at the Boseong-gun Public Health Center.
The medical institutions conducting complication tests within Boseong-gun are Boseong Asan Hospital, Beolgyo Samho Hospital, Boseong Bright Eye Clinic, and Beolgyo Suncheon Eye Clinic.
Eligible individuals can receive free tests at the designated medical institutions by presenting the notification letter provided by the public health center. Boseong-gun plans to review and pay the medical institutions upon receiving the test cost claims.
The common complication tests include cholesterol, glycated hemoglobin, microalbuminuria, carotid ultrasound, and intraocular pressure tests. Additionally, electrocardiogram tests are conducted for hypertension patients, and nerve tests are added for diabetes patients.
Seon Moonshim, head of the public health center, stated, “Hypertension and diabetes are major precursor diseases of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, which account for one-fifth of all causes of death in Korea. They can also progress to kidney disease and cataracts, so to prevent progression to severe diseases, these tests have been conducted annually since 2019.” He added, “Early detection of cataracts through these tests is linked to support projects for cataract surgery costs, making the program highly effective.”
Meanwhile, Boseong-gun plans to refer individuals with suspicious findings to secondary examination institutions and provide follow-up management based on the test results.
