Climate Industry International Expo Conference 'Business Summit'
Keynote Speeches by International Energy Agency and BloombergNEF
Deputy Minister Kang Kyung-sung: "Responding to Crisis by Fostering Climate Industry"
Deputy Minister Kang Kyung-sung of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy attended the '2023 Climate Industry International Expo (WCE)' Business Summit, one of the conferences held at BEXCO in Haeundae-gu, Busan, on the afternoon of the 25th.
The Business Summit is a conference discussing global companies' green business growth strategies and corporate responsibilities for a sustainable future. It is divided into a Low-Carbon Energy Session and an ESG Management Session on the 26th.
The Low-Carbon Energy Session began with a welcoming speech by Deputy Minister Kang. He said, "Active fostering of the climate industry, which is key to carbon neutrality, is a practical response to the climate crisis," and added, "I hope you will discover a triple-win opportunity for corporate growth, climate response, and social contribution through the Business Summit."
In the following keynote presentations, Keisuke Sadamori, Director of Energy Markets and Security at the International Energy Agency (IEA), spoke on "Stable and Economical Clean Energy Transition," and Ali Izadi, Head of Asia-Pacific at BloombergNEF, presented on "Finding the Path to Energy Transition." A panel discussion chaired by Professor Kim Hee-jip of Seoul National University featured representatives from domestic and international leading companies in the climate energy sector, including Doosan Enerbility and ExxonMobil, the world's largest oil company.
The ESG Management Session held on the morning of the 26th will begin with a special address by Steven Dunbar-Johnson, International Section Chief of The New York Times. Keynote speeches include "Corporate Innovation for a Sustainable Future" by Jolin Ang, Vice President of Global Partnerships Asia-Pacific at Google, and "24/7 Carbon-Free Power, the New Frontier of Power Procurement" by Surbhi Singavi, Energy Transition Manager at WBCSD. A panel discussion with domestic and international experts from industry, academia, and research will follow.
