[Kim Haneul's FunFun Golf] '3 Wood Tee Shot'

Head can move left and right, no up and down movement
Insert the tee slightly higher than the head

When playing a round, there are holes where you can't use a driver. When you can't clear the penalty area, you need to play a short shot with a wood. However, since it's not a club you use often, tee shots with it are not easy. I also find hitting a 3-wood difficult.

The 3-wood is a tricky club. Although the head is long, it is thin. With a driver, even if you hit it roughly, the ball somehow goes forward. But with a 3-wood, a mishit just causes the ball to roll. Without securing distance, it becomes difficult to attack the hole.

The height of your head is important when using a 3-wood. It's okay for your head to move side to side during the swing. However, if it moves up and down, you cannot make accurate contact. When using a 3-wood, it is especially important to minimize vertical head movement.

The 3-wood does not produce a good trajectory easily. Trying to lift the ball often results in hitting the ground behind the ball. You need to practice hitting the 3-wood at the driving range. Imagine there is a sharp nail under your chin. If your head drops down, you could get hurt, so you must avoid lifting your head. Your head should not tilt backward during the swing either. If you have an assistant to help keep the club on your head, you can reduce backward tilting. To emphasize again, to reduce mistakes with the 3-wood, you must minimize vertical head movement.

Here are tips for tee shots with a 3-wood. Since you hit off a tee, it is easier than a fairway wood shot. It is difficult to make accurate contact when the ball is on the ground, but since you hit off a tee, you can achieve better results. Tee the ball a little higher. When I address the ball, I slightly lift the wood for the tee shot, so I tend to tee it a bit higher than other players.

If you swing with the club resting on the ground, you can tee the ball a little lower. The tee should be placed so that it sticks up slightly above the head. There is no fixed tee height. Through practice, golfers should find the height that feels most comfortable to them.
