Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced on the 24th that it has renovated and opened the resident rest area under the Eungbonggyo Bridge.

The existing resident rest area located under the overpass in Eungbong-dong was often criticized for being dark and underutilized by residents. In response, the district collaborated with Seoul City to promote the ‘Overpass Underutilization Project.’

The district held several meetings and advisory sessions to incorporate residents’ opinions, focusing on improving lighting and enhancing the rest area’s functionality.

Construction began in September last year, creating a space with a total floor area of 1,100㎡. Through landscape lighting that minimizes light pollution while increasing illumination and a dynamic spatial design, the overall atmosphere of the previously dark rest area was improved.

The highlight of the rest area is the ceiling lighting facility, designed so that the roof structure, shaped like waves of light, flows continuously. During the day, the ceiling reflects light like waves, and at night, it shines with flowing indirect light, transforming the entire space into a unified public terrace.

On the 24th, an opening ceremony was held with the participation of over 60 residents, marking the start of full-scale operation. The rest area is designed in a terrace style to compensate for height differences and includes exercise equipment, expected to establish itself as a village community space where residents can comfortably communicate.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "We will continue to utilize idle spaces to create resident rest areas and manage them for convenient use. We will strive to improve residents’ quality of life and happiness index by expanding leisure spaces."
