Korea Housing Finance Corporation (HF) conducted an environmental cleanup activity called ‘EM Soil Ball Throwing’ to improve water quality in the local stream, Hoedongcheon in Busan, together with children from a local community child center.
EM soil balls are made by mixing EM (Effective Micro-organisms) solution, a beneficial microorganism, with loess. When thrown into the stream, they help purify the water and restore the ecological environment.
About 40 participants, including 20 HF employees and 20 children from the community child center, took part in this activity aimed at improving the water quality and reducing odors in the local stream. They threw 500 EM soil balls they made themselves into Hoedongcheon as part of the water purification effort.

They also conducted environmental education on topics such as ▲climate crisis and the importance of the environment ▲the role of streams and the effects of EM soil balls.
An HF official said, “We find it meaningful to reflect on the importance of the environment while carrying out local stream cleanup activities with children, who are the future generation,” adding, “The corporation will continue to pursue social contribution activities for the local community.”
HF plans to conduct a total of four local stream environmental cleanup activities, twice in the first half and twice in the second half of the year, involving employees and local children together.
