After creating the ‘Barefoot Park’ in Deokgok-myeon, Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk, an opening ceremony was held on the 23rd by inviting Professor Kwon Taek-hwan of Daegu National University of Education, famous as the ‘Principal of the Barefoot School’.
‘Barefoot Park’ is a small park renewed this year by Deokgok-myeon along the embankment of Sogacheon Stream as part of the ‘Small Stream Maintenance Project.’ At the opening ceremony, about 50 people including residents from the Barefoot Walking Club, health promotion staff, and related officials gathered to celebrate the park’s opening together.
An official from Deokgok-myeon, Goryeong-gun said, “Inside Barefoot Park, a path 200 meters long and 2 meters wide was created for walking barefoot. This path is covered with loess soil.”
Professor Kwon Taek-hwan of Daegu National University of Education, who attended the opening ceremony, is a leading authority on barefoot walking and is well known nationwide as the principal of the Barefoot School. He was amazed at the changes in Deokgok-myeon over the past five months, including the formation of the Barefoot Walking Club after his lecture at the ‘Deokgok Academy’ last December.
Moon Young-sook, president of the Barefoot Walking Club, shared the benefits of barefoot walking, saying, “After listening to the professor’s lecture last year and starting barefoot walking, my insomnia disappeared, I stopped taking sleeping pills, and my cataracts improved.”
Kim Kwang-ho, head of Deokgok-myeon, Goryeong-gun, who organized the event, said, “I feel rewarded to see a healthy hobby becoming a culture in Deokgok-myeon through the invitation lecture of the ‘Deokgok Academy.’”
