Hidden camera installed to illegally film 100 motel guests... Man in his 30s sentenced to 8 years in prison

A man in his 30s who installed cameras disguised as internet routers in lodging facilities and illegally filmed the bodies of over 100 guests was sentenced to a heavy prison term.

On the 24th, Judge Kim Dong-hee of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 18 sentenced Mr. A (30), who was indicted on charges of filming using a camera under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, to 8 years in prison.

Additionally, Mr. A was restricted from working at institutions related to children, adolescents, or persons with disabilities for 7 years.

Judge Kim stated, "The defendant filmed sexual intercourse scenes with cameras disguised as internet routers in multiple lodging facilities, showing the severity of the crime. Despite having been punished several times for similar offenses, he repeated the crimes during the recidivism period, making it necessary to isolate him from society for a certain period."

Mr. A was arrested and indicted on charges of installing 14 cameras in 10 motel rooms in Seoul, Incheon, and Busan from January to February, illegally filming the bodies of over 100 guests 69 times.

He was also charged with illegally filming and storing videos of himself having sexual intercourse with a sex worker.

Investigations revealed that Mr. A installed cameras disguised as internet routers on TV shelves and other places inside motel or hotel rooms, filming toward the beds. Police, responding to a report from hotel staff, confiscated all disguised cameras, preventing the distribution of the illegal footage.
