Daejeon City will conduct safety inspections to prepare for summer wind and flood disasters.
On the 24th, Daejeon City announced that from next month 5th to July 21st, safety inspections will be conducted on disaster-vulnerable areas (facilities) managed by disaster management responsible agencies including 5 autonomous districts, the Construction Management Headquarters, the River Management Office, and public corporations.
The safety inspections are carried out to check the management status of disaster-vulnerable areas where disasters are likely to occur during typhoons or localized heavy rains, in order to prevent casualties and property damage.
The targets include 165 locations with concerns for human casualties such as semi-basement houses, collapse risks, Sewol bridges, dangerous slopes, roads prone to flooding, and riverside parking lots; 140 steep slopes; 82 underpasses; 509 landslide-vulnerable areas; 29 Type 2 facilities under the City Special Act; and 113 river sites, totaling 1,038 locations.
The safety inspection targets were determined by sampling based on the risk grades of facilities such as accident-prone areas within the last 5 years, habitual flood zones, slope erosion areas, and expected occurrence areas.
In particular, for areas with concerns for human casualties, risk factors will be removed and focused checks will be made on facility management status, pre-control and resident evacuation plans, and vehicle entry control measures to prevent flooding damage in riverside parking lots.
Daejeon City plans to immediately correct minor issues identified during the safety inspections on site, and for matters requiring fundamental improvements, emergency measures will be taken followed by the swift establishment and implementation of improvement plans.
If violations of laws or negligence in duties are detected, strict measures will be taken according to the zero-tolerance principle.
Yang Seung-chan, Director of the Citizen Safety Office of Daejeon City, said, "We will focus on proactively inspecting areas at risk of wind and flood disasters to ensure the safety of citizens."
