Controversy Over Assigning Search Duties to Students
A man who posted a notice on social networking service (SNS) threatening to commit murder in a university bathroom in Seoul was arrested by the police. Controversy arose when the police, who responded to the report, asked students to search the women's bathroom because it was a women's restroom.
On the 24th, Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that they conducted a search for about two hours after a murder threat post was made on the SNS about a bathroom at University A on the 21st.
During this process, a male police officer searching the library bathroom asked passing students to search the women's bathroom, which sparked controversy. A police official said, "We had to search the bathrooms in 36 buildings, but there was a shortage of female officers," adding, "It was wrong to ask for a search without providing a clear explanation of the situation."
The police secured the suspect who posted the murder threat in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the same day and are investigating the exact circumstances.
