Various employment and entrepreneurship education reflecting demand... from certification, skills, entrepreneurship to life planning
Creating a job-rich Yeongdeungpo with tailored employment support for youth, women, and seniors
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will operate various employment and entrepreneurship education programs, including the Wallpaper Technician Certification Course, to provide a second chance for middle-aged adults in their 40s and 50s who are job seekers or preparing for employment or entrepreneurship.
With the retirement age getting earlier and the concept of lifelong employment disappearing, the number of middle-aged retirees or those preparing for retirement has increased significantly.
Accordingly, the district operates the Wallpaper Technician Certification Course, which does not have a fixed retirement age and makes reemployment easier for middle-aged adults.
The education is divided into two sessions to allow as many trainees as possible to attend: the first session from June 12 to June 30, and the second session from July 3 to July 21, held at the Yeongdeungpo Youth Architecture School.
The number of recruits is 8 per course, and unemployed middle-aged residents aged 40 to 59 living in the district can apply for the course at the Yeongdeungpo Youth Architecture School by June 6. The education is free of charge, and if there are many applicants, trainees will be selected through interviews.
Through 10 hours of theory and 92 hours of on-site practice, participants can obtain the Wallpaper Technician Certification. After the training, participants will also engage in volunteer home repair work for vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and semi-basement households to gain diverse field experience.
Additionally, a practice space usage voucher of 20 hours per person will be provided for the Wallpaper Technician practical exam.
The district also operates 10 educational programs ranging from certification courses to entrepreneurship support and life planning consulting to support employment and entrepreneurship for middle-aged adults preparing for the latter half of life, including a caregiver certification course for career-interrupted women, a big data-based online store startup course, general security training for middle-aged adults, electrical technician training, and job competency enhancement education.
Furthermore, to expand employment opportunities and provide quality jobs for middle-aged adults, the district plans to hold the ‘Middle-aged Employment Fair,’ a meeting place for employers and job seekers, in the second half of the year.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “We have prepared various employment and entrepreneurship education programs such as capacity building, certification courses, and life planning to create a vibrant and happy city for middle-aged adults. Going forward, we will create a lively Yeongdeungpo with quality job policies not only for middle-aged adults but also for youth, career-interrupted women, vulnerable groups, and seniors.”
