Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated that in an era where democracy is regressing into authoritarianism and market economy into power (權) economy, he is reminded of the late President Roh Moo-hyun and pledged to inherit and develop 'Vision 2030' into 'Vision 2050.'
Vision 2030 is the goal for South Korea announced by the late President Roh Moo-hyun in 2006. Its core is to build a society where all citizens have no worries about housing, medical expenses, or food, to enter the ranks of advanced countries in the 2010s, and to raise the per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to $84,000 by 2030.
On the 23rd, Governor Kim wrote a post titled "The Unfinished Path" on his social networking service (SNS), saying, "(President Roh Moo-hyun) was a person who confronted vested interests and privileges with his whole body. He showed de-authoritarianism through actions, not words. He was a passionate fighter but humble and humane," and added, "(Today, marking the 14th anniversary of President Roh's passing) it is a day when I think of him again."
He continued, "It is even more so in an era where democracy is regressing into authoritarianism and market economy into power economy."
He then said, "Last year, I visited Bongha Village and dedicated the 'Vision 2030' report to former President Roh Moo-hyun," introducing it as "the very report that the President said at the January 2007 New Year's press conference that with the vision and strategy contained here, South Korea would surely succeed."
Furthermore, he evaluated, "He was right," and "Social investment, social capital, innovation, and inclusive growth have now become universal values that no one can deny."
However, he added, "It is still incomplete, and completing this task is our responsibility," and "Because we created it together, I feel a greater sense of responsibility than anyone else."
Finally, Governor Kim said, "Leaving Bongha Village after the 14th anniversary memorial service for President Roh Moo-hyun, I reaffirm the path we must take," and promised, "I will inherit the value of 'Vision 2030' on a larger scale as 'Vision 2050.'"
