Leading City with the Nation’s First ‘Ordinance to Support the Activation of Personal Information Protection Projects’ Enacted
Achieved the Highest Grade for Three Consecutive Years in Public Institution Personal Information Management Level Assessment, Pilot Project for Parking Safety Number to be Implemented by the End of This Month
In February, an agreement was signed for the pilot project of the parking safety number service, and Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu (right in the photo), is taking a photo with the company representative.
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it has enacted the nation’s first ‘Seoul Special City Seongdong-gu Ordinance to Support the Activation of Personal Information Protection Projects.’
Recently, the development of digital industries such as ChatGPT and artificial intelligence has brought convenience to life, but personal information leakage incidents continue to occur, emerging as a serious social issue.
In response, Seongdong-gu established the ‘Ordinance to Support the Activation of Personal Information Protection Projects’ in mid-this month to lay the foundation for promoting personal information protection projects.
The ordinance was enacted with the purpose of preventing damage from personal information leakage or exposure incidents, alleviating anxiety about such incidents, and fostering a safe culture of personal information protection. Starting with the enactment of the ordinance, various projects such as prevention of personal information leakage and exposure incidents and personal information protection education will be promoted.
Seongdong-gu recently achieved the highest grade for three consecutive years in the ‘Public Institution Personal Information Management Level Assessment’ conducted by the Personal Information Protection Commission, and also received high scores in the Seoul City personal information protection management status inspection, being recognized as an excellent institution in personal information protection.
Additionally, since February last year, it introduced the city’s first ‘Digital Storage Media Destruction Service’ and installed document shredders at community service centers to provide a ‘Personal Information Document Shredding Service’ that allows anyone to conveniently destroy documents.
In March this year, the district conducted a ‘Parking Safety Number Pilot Project’ to spare no effort in protecting residents’ personal information.
The Parking Safety Number is a service that issues a 12-digit safety number starting with 050 instead of a regular mobile phone number, allowing calls without exposing personal information. So far, 490 people have applied.
Seongdong-gu has installed document shredders in 17 community service centers, providing a personal information document shredding service that allows anyone to conveniently dispose of documents.
Residents who wish to apply can do so through the Seongdong-gu website or community service centers by the 31st of this month, and they can also receive their own safety number plate.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “With the enactment of this ordinance, we will contribute to forming a culture of personal information protection and strive to ensure that all Seongdong-gu residents can alleviate damage and anxiety caused by personal information leakage.”
