Creating Local Jobs
Posco Future M, a battery materials subsidiary of the Posco Group, is collaborating with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and Pohang Steel Technical High School (Pohang Jecheol Gonggo) to cultivate specialized personnel in secondary batteries.
On the 23rd, Posco Future M signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for "Training Specialized Personnel in Secondary Batteries and Strengthening Technological Competitiveness" with POSTECH, Pohang Steel Technical High School, and Pohang City at the Pohang City Hall main conference room.
Prior to this agreement, Posco Future M had signed a contract with POSTECH last year to establish a customized program for training specialized personnel in battery materials. In March, they launched and have been operating the e-Battery Track, a master's and doctoral course at the Graduate School of Energy Materials. Posco Future M plans to hire students who complete the program into their research institutes and other divisions.
While enrolled, students will have opportunities to participate in joint projects with Posco Future M and visit major business sites to conduct field-oriented research. Additionally, to foster holistic capabilities necessary to lead the battery materials business, students will complete courses in humanities and leadership development. Posco Future M will fully cover tuition fees and provide scholarships for the degree programs.
Pohang Steel Technical High School, a Meister high school specialized in training professional technical personnel, has established a secondary battery subject as part of its regular curriculum, educating all enrolled students. Outstanding students will be given priority for employment through the Meister high school recruitment process upon graduation.
President Kim stated, "Through collaboration with POSTECH, the nation's top research-focused university, and Pohang Steel Technical High School, a cradle of technical talent, we expect to not only strengthen the company's human competitiveness but also contribute to job creation in the region." He added, "We will support students in each program to grow into global battery materials experts and realize their dreams at Posco Future M."
Posco Future M opened an industry-academia integrated research center with POSTECH in 2019 and has established an industry-academia cooperation system for talent development with major domestic universities including Yonsei University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST).
