Ministry of the Interior and Safety Approves Grade 2 Position for Eastern Regional Headquarters Chief
The Jeonnam Province Eastern Regional Headquarters has established a foundation to serve as a functional and practical second government office.
According to the province on the 22nd, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety approved the Eastern Regional Headquarters chief as a Grade 2 position.
Accordingly, the Eastern Regional Headquarters, scheduled to open in July, will have a Grade 2 chief who oversees affiliated departments, is granted responsibility and authority over important decisions, and will promptly handle tasks locally.
The Eastern Regional Headquarters started as a branch office in 2005 to facilitate civil service convenience for residents in the distant eastern region when the Jeonnam Provincial Government moved from Gwangju to Muan.
Following the relocation of the environmental department in 2014 and the forestry department in 2018, the office has expanded to a four-department system. Legislative notice was given until May 10, and final coordination with the Provincial Council is underway.
Jeonnam Province has included relocation support expenses for employees moving to the eastern region in the first supplementary budget proposal and is accelerating preparations for the July opening, including the passage of organizational restructuring and supplementary budget during the June Provincial Council session.
Park Hyun-sik, Director of the Jeonnam Provincial Government’s Autonomous Administration Bureau, said, “With the approval of a Grade 2 chief, the Eastern Regional Headquarters is expected to function as the representative administrative institution of the eastern region and as a practical second government office.”
