Providing AI-Based Optimal Route Guidance for Transportation Vulnerable… 600 Million KRW Project Budget Invested
A new path opens to provide customized route guidance tailored to the walking characteristics of transportation vulnerable individuals using advanced artificial intelligence technology.
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it has been finally selected in the ‘2023 Science and Technology-Based Resident-Engaged Local Problem Solving Project’ competition hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The ‘Resident-Engaged Local Problem Solving Project’ is a program where residents directly participate in the entire process from discovering to solving local issues, and private companies and local governments collaborate to solve regional problems using digital technology.
Eunpyeong-gu’s final selected project is the ‘AI-Based Optimal Mobility Route Guidance Service for Transportation Vulnerable.’ This service was planned reflecting the characteristics of the area, which has an increasing population of transportation vulnerable individuals and a large number of residents with disabilities.
The main goal of the ‘AI-Based Optimal Mobility Route Guidance Service for Transportation Vulnerable’ is to provide customized route guidance suited to the walking characteristics of transportation vulnerable individuals by utilizing advanced artificial intelligence technology.
Previously, as the ‘AI-Based Optimal Mobility Route Guidance Service for Transportation Vulnerable’ was selected as a preliminary project last year, efforts were focused on preparing solutions for potential issues arising in technology development, application, and infrastructure construction.
A ‘Self-Solution Team’ composed of researchers, local residents, local government officials, and experts operated and conducted a four-month preliminary survey of the service. They identified inconveniences and demands actually experienced by transportation vulnerable individuals and carefully examined essential needs through on-site inspections.
Following this selection, the district will invest a total project budget of 600 million KRW to officially start service development. By integrating the sidewalk database and traffic information collected by Eunpyeong-gu, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s address database and background maps, and public portal API information, an AI-based optimal mobility route platform will be established.
Along with technology development by expert researchers, the district office plans to thoroughly verify the service and aims to launch it by September next year. Once implemented, it is expected that local transportation vulnerable individuals will secure their right to move safely and conveniently without discrimination.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “As the number of transportation vulnerable individuals is increasing nationwide, I hope this project will yield results that greatly benefit our society,” and added, “We will do our best to successfully promote this project so that we can improve residents’ quality of life and advance into a resident-centered smart city that solves local problems.”
