Gyeonggi Provincial Government Employees' Union Urges "Fixed Salary Increase of 377,000 Won for Public Officials" Gyeonggi Provincial Government

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government Employees' Labor Union held a press conference at the new provincial government building in Yeongtong, Suwon, Gwanggyo New Town, urging the government to raise civil servant salaries next year.

On this day, the union stated, "Considering the cumulative real income decline from 2021 to 2023 and the 2024 consumer price index forecast, we demand a fixed increase of 377,000 KRW to the overall civil servant salary next year, along with an 80,000 KRW increase in fixed meal allowances and a 35,000 KRW increase in grade 6 and below position allowances." They also called for "revising the calculation methods for overtime pay and annual leave compensation to the level of the private sector to effectively improve the treatment of lower-ranking civil servants."

They particularly emphasized, "While living costs are soaring rapidly, civil servant workers' salaries are actually regressing," and argued, "Civil servant salaries have been a history of sacrifice itself. When the economy is good, salaries are arbitrarily decided or cut under the pretext of influencing private sector wages; when the economy is bad, they are cut under the guise of sharing pain."

Kang Soon-ha, Chairperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Employees' Labor Union, stressed, "This is not a complaint demanding high salaries like senior officials, but a 'cry for survival' reflecting a living wage," and urged, "Please face the harsh reality of lower-ranking civil servant workers whose combined salaries and allowances do not even reach the monthly position allowance of the president."

The National Government Employees' Labor Union Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters is also scheduled to hold a press conference at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government on the 24th, urging the government to implement four demands: ▲ a 377,000 KRW increase in civil servant wages ▲ a 10,000 KRW lunch allowance and increase in fixed meal allowances ▲ guarantee of civil servants' right to live ▲ application of the Labor Standards Act to overtime pay and annual leave compensation, which currently discriminate against civil servants.
