Gumi City Breaks Ground for the Promotion of the Domestic Wheat Industry!

Establishment and Inauguration Ceremony of the Rice Industry Development Council

On the 18th, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk held an inaugural ceremony for the Wheat Industry Development Council at the Agricultural Technology Center. The council was formed through cooperation between agricultural producer groups and consumer organizations to expand the distribution of domestic wheat and secure a strategic regional base.

The council consists of three producer organizations, 14 bakery companies, and milling experts. During the inaugural ceremony, in-depth discussions were held on various tasks that need to be pursued for the development of the domestic wheat industry.

In the discussions, amid the harsh situation where the self-sufficiency rate of domestic wheat is only 0.8%, there were thorough debates on improving the quality of domestic wheat demanded by consumers, including seed selection, cultivation methods, and the production and utilization of milling wheat of grade 1.5 or higher.

Kim Young-hyuk, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “By forming a cooperative body between producer and consumer groups, Gumi City has gained an opportunity to establish itself as a strategic base for domestic wheat.” He added, “We will present a standard model for a regionally customized domestic wheat production system where consumers and producers can coexist and prosper.”
